I moved to Hamilton at the end of January 2021 from Hawke’s Bay for a fresh start. I’ve accumulated a wide range of skills over the years through my work and life experiences as well as computing and business studies. I enjoy taking a bit of time to myself to listen to music and get stuck into writing and drawing, but I also enjoy spending time with friends who are my family.
After being introduced to Evolve through the Journey Programme I knew this was an environment that really aligned with my humanity. Evolve has helped me reevaluate where I am in life, and realign myself with my values and my purpose. I wanted to be a part of this team because it is a really awesome feeling being able to inspire and help guide others in an environment where everyone is equal.

Originally a Waikato girl I have lived in a few different spots, having returned to Hamilton from a couple of years living in England in 2016. It took me a while to realise that Hamilton is truly where my heart is, and the people are what makes Hamilton what it is. I have a passion for football, playing every chance I get in indoor and 6 aside leagues. As well as football, I enjoy being creative, playing boardgames and spending time with loved ones.

I am honoured to have been a part of Evolve Peer Support Trust from it’s inception in 2017. I was invited to join the Board of Trustees to set up a new Charitable Trust and I couldn’t be more proud of how far we have come in such a short time. In 2021 an opening came up to join the team on the frontline and I became the new Team Coordinator, stepping down from the Board to take on a more hands on role. Having personally experienced a breakdown in December 2019 it was a huge step to join to workforce again and Evolve has given me the ideal environment to rebuild my confidence.

For me, the combination and balance of neuroscience and mindfulness throughout the Journey Course, was something I found really useful and enjoyable to learn. As I was already interested in those things before the course, and personally enjoy sharing knowledge in general, becoming a facilitator for Evolve was something I just knew I wanted to do before I even finished the course.

Hey there! So, I'm originally from Hawke's Bay, but I've found myself at home here in Waikato. I have always worked in customer service and found I wanted to work with people in a more meaningful way. I love hanging out with my friends and whanau, and my cat Marcie. For me, helping others has always come naturally and I found it really meaningful to use my experiences to help others. I have always been into psychology and enjoy researching humans and why we are the way we are; what happens when we go through trauma, and how we can overcome our own minds. I appreciate CBT and a holistic approach to mental wellness and have been practicing mindfulness for 10 years. The team here made me feel welcome and I found my people.

Originally from Pukekohe, I moved to Hamilton when I was 8, and other than a few years living in Auckland when studying have been here since. I have been dealing with depression and anxiety since I was 17. Currently 31 so have had my fair share of lived experience. Out of school I trained to be a Pastry Chef, so I can make some tasty baked goods. I also potentially wanted to go to radio school, but baking won over in the end, but that doesn’t stop me from attempting my impressions in the support groups, with varying levels of success with my “radio voice”.

When I went through the Journey Programme as a participant it opened my eyes to potentially being the person who can help people who are in a similar situation I was in. It was using my experiences to help others get through their situation, helping us both come out better in the process, that really sold the effectiveness of Peer Support. Asking to volunteer when my Journey Programme ended has led me to become a better person, and I hope that I am a positive influence on the participants who come through our doors.
